Just because I’m 50? Just because our kids are grown and on their own and we are no longer homeschooling?
Just because one stage of life ends, doesn’t mean another can’t begin.
You aren’t getting any younger!
Exactly! So why not? Are we to sit around and just exist? Wait for grandchildren? What if we do not have grandchildren?
We might have some nay-sayers. People who do not agree and think we are crazy. We know we are! We don’t need anyone to tell us.
We love where we live, despite the harsh winters. Many know our track record for moving. In 30 years of marriage we have moved an average of every 2 years. We have been at our current home for 4 years now. Almost a new record! Our second home was 5 years. So we hope to beat that!
We love the wide open spaces of where we are and the 10 acres we are on. We love that we can do almost anything we want and have almost any pet we want. So why not? Why not have chickens, goats or anything else? Why not homestead? Why not try to grow a garden? It is because we aren’t getting any younger. We don’t believe in waiting around to die. We don’t believe in just existing. We believe that there is a reason in every season and we should get out of our comfort zone and enjoy the life that God has given us to live. We are put here for a reason.
We get it!
Our first response to anything new is often “no.” Spontaneity is not our strong suit. Thinking outside the box doesn’t come as easy to me as it does my husband. And I surely would never consider myself a risk-taker...neither of us really would. But we do trust in the Lord and what the Holy Spirit puts on our hearts. Our place brings us peace and tranquility. A place to get away from all the craziness of this world and focus on our faith and family. If the Lord has grandchildren in our future, we would love to be able to extend this peace to them. A safe place for them to go and just be outdoors without social media and electronics. A place to jump in the mud, pick peas off the vine to eat, gather eggs from chickens and maybe even head butt with a goat. A place to be who they are meant to be.
We always have options. There is always a next phase of life and we can do just as much with it as we did with the last one. ~ Amy from A Farmish Kind of Life
My joy of life grows exponentially with each new sprout in my garden, each evening of listening to the bluebirds and barnswallows. The sounds of nature are so peaceful. Watching nature is even more peaceful. Wildlife on our land is amazing. I love the deer, though they like to eat my flowers, garden and trees. We have to build tall fences to keep them out. We love the antelope eating our weeds. Sometimes we even get watch the birth of a baby being born. Have a sand hill crane or ducks and geese flying overhead is amazing when you can even hear the sound of their wings.
So, why now? Life is precious and a gift, and we each only get one. My advice: don’t wait to live life. Enjoy every moment and opportunity that comes your way.
So we hope you will join us in our journey of changes and follow what we do. We have so many other dreams and plans and we don’t want you to miss out on them.
