Here you will find all the information you need to relax at your session, as well as, what is next in the process.
First and foremost please sign my portrait agreement by clicking on the button below. After you sign and send it you will be emailed a copy.
Know you do not have to sign it. I totally respect my clients decision that don't. Just know I will not be able to show any sneak peeks on any social media of any kind without it.
After the Agreement is signed we will decide on a time (usually evening) and a location together.
I can guide you through what to wear at your session.
I want you to relax and have fun. I promise we will play a few games with the kids, so they will love this process.
Below you can read about when to expect your photos.
Together, we will decide on the best location for your photos. We can shoot in your home as long as your home has adequate natural light. Many clients prefer their home because of the intimate and personal feel it provides, especially for newborn sessions. I have many locations that I love to shoot at regularly but I am always open to new locations as well. You should choose a location that fits your style and personality or that may have a connection to you and your family. Here are a few options in my area:
Beach ~ Fremont Lake Sandy Beach
Mountain Top ~ White Pine Ski Area
Fields ~ Behind the airport, passed the gravel pit
Woods ~ Either of the parks in the Town of Pinedale
I am always open for a place that has connection and meaning for you.

If we are shooting in your home, I prefer late morning, because that is when homes are usually lit up the best. If we are shooting outdoors we will shoot either in the morning or in the evening. The light is typically too harsh mid day. If your children are up for it, shooting one to two hours before sunset provides gorgeous light and atmosphere. The images in my portfolio look the way they do largely because of my use of light and the time of day your session takes place has a huge impact. Many families tell me that they simply have the kids take a late nap or have some down time prior to their evening session.
Wardrobe should be comfortable and reflect who you are. I do not recommend matching but rather coordinating. Here are a few tips to help you out:
* Textures, colors and layers can really add beautiful depth and dimension to your images.
*Great layering items include sweaters, ruffles, scarves, lace, a jean jacket, a crocheted dress, and accessories such as bows, necklaces, funky shoes and cute hats.
*It’s best for clothing to be free of distracting patterns, brand logos and graphics, although plaid and polka dots usually work well.
*I like to capture my clients in a very natural and organic fashion so clothes that move and flow, such as maxi skirts and dresses, are a beautiful choice for women and girls.
*Color is wonderful! It’s usually best NOT to dress everyone in white or navy. That being said, you probably don’t want a whole rainbow of colors, so a good rule of thumb is to try to keep everyone within the same three accenting colors.
*When selection color either decide to go bold and keep everyone within bold colors (for example, red, yellow and navy for a fall session), or go soft and keep everyone within that (light blue, spring yellow, pink).
*Mix and match neutral colors as much as you want. Neutral colors include gray, black, white, beige and navy.
*Don’t go too heavy on black and navy. These colors act like a wall within the photos, especially if subjects are sitting next to each other both in dark shades. Black can be truly stunning but is usually best if kept to a sun dress or something else without too much fabric that shows a fair amount of skin to brighten it up.
Remember that children are not usually fond of being told to pose or smile. It is best if we just give the children time to relax and try to capture their natural self. Don’t worry if your child is running about and active, I love to capture images of children and toddlers while busy playing and exploring.
To get the family shots, I usually direct the adults to simply “be” with the child, or hold the child and we go from there.
To get the most of your session, make sure that your little one has rested and has had adequate snacks and water. We can take breaks for snacks and play, however I will probably still shoot during the breaks. Bring dry, not messy snacks so their little faces stay clean during the session.
Prepare children for the session by letting them know that a friend will be taking some photos of them, it’s best not to surprise them.
I will worry about their behavior, you just need to show up prepared to have fun and relax. Make it a fun family experience. Instead of bribing your kiddos with a treat, make this a feel good day. Make plans to go out for dinner or a treat before or after the session as a family. Not as a reward but as part of the overall experience.
My goal is to capture who your family are right now, not to make you do anything stiff or unnatural. I promise to have some fun. I am a natural light photographer and do not use any fancy lighting or reflectors. My sessions are light hearted and fast. It will be an hour or less for most sessions, but 1 to 2 hours for a newborn session. We can be on location or in the comfort of your home. I am not after a photo with everyone posed looking at the camera. We may get a few of them, but I am more about connection than perfection. I want them to feel gentle, silly and timeless with a little fine art.
I will provide a generous gallery of images that can be displayed in your home as pieces of art or archived in a custom album to be treasured for generations. In two to three weeks after your session, I will send you a link to a gallery of all your images (minimum 75). You are welcome to share your gallery on social media or email it to friends and family. Depending on the session you booked, I will also work on your photo album. You will have your photo album and all photos on a flash drive with in three to four weeks. You do have options to purchase other prints and products through your gallery.
